HCRC has predominantly focused on trials with CNS or psychotropic compounds. However, in recent years we have conducted clinical trials addressing the full spectrum of pharmacological agents.

Alcohol Dependence and Substance Abuse

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Hawaii Clinical Research Center has worked with child and adolescent populations in this study indication-using drug vs. drug design with an open-label extension period. The Center was overwhelmed with a strong positive response to our advertising efforts for recruitment but the study deadline was brought forward.

Bi-polar Disorder, acute manic, manic, mixed and depressive types

Studies have included both placebo-controlled studies and drug vs. drug comparisons with oral formulations. Areas of study have been with acutely manic, or mixed episodes requiring inpatient hospitalization, usually for a period of three weeks. Hawaii Clinical Research Center has also worked with a number of prevention and relapse/recurrence trials with all bipolar types utilizing an open label period of study medication for the purpose of stabilization, at which time the patient is randomized into a double-blind placebo controlled study phase usually lasting one year.

Cardiovascular; Hypertension, Hypertension with LVH, and Stable Angina

These studies have included placebo-controlled studies and drug vs. drug comparisons. We have historically recruited well for depression trials with enrollment goals of twelve to sixty patients. We have always exceeded our contacted number in these trials.

Dermatology; Herpes Zoster, Gential/Perianal Warts, Atopic Dermatitis

As with other specialty areas, Hawaii Clinical Research Center affiliates with local dermatologists. Recruitment comes from a variety of sources including advertising, physician referral and strong networking. We recently conducted a study in atopic dermatitis for the purpose of Japanese bridging with a patient population that included children ranging in age from three months to eleven years of age.

Gastroenterology; Active Ulcer Disease, Prevention of Ulcers
